Cropped Wrap Top: Vogue V9315
It's February. My favourite month. Partly because I was born in this month and therefore I try to make it as special as possible. But also because it's Ballet Season. And I love the Ballet. In particular I love contemporary Ballet and I've got tickets to see Matthew Bourne's latest production; 'The Red Shoes'.
I'm so excited and to commemorate the first ballet of 2020, I have decided to make a quintessential Ballet garment; the Wrap Top. And its going to be in Scarlet Red.
I used Vogue Pattern V9315 and went with View C. It's a cropped wrap with epic sleeves that have a lot of drama. Perfect for the ballet.
The pattern calls for woven fabric, but I wanted something that had a little bit stretch to get a closer and more comfortable fit of the wrapping part of the top. So I used a red knit fabric; Ponte Jersey.
To account for the stretchier fabric, I did go down a size, but other than that I made no changes to the basic construction of the top. The only changes I made were to the finishing touches. I had some Red Bias Tape left over so I decided to use it to complete the hem of the sleeves and to Hong Kong finish the seams.
As the pattern says - it's 'Very Easy Vogue' and for once I found it true to its word; it was simple to make.
I absolutely love it. It's so comfortable and I love how large the ties are and the voluminous sleeves. The only change I'd try to make in the future is to add some length to it. But for the ballet it does the job.
