We Are Knitters: Silver Monk Sweater
Knitting. Whenever I think of this craft I am taken down memory lane to a red velvet sofa, me as a child, sat with a Peter and Jane book, practicing my reading whilst my Mum knits away.
As a child I dabbled in a bit of knitting too. Making oversized scarfs and jumpers that never fit. But it never seemed to stick as a hobby. I was always more interested in sewing, even as a child.
As one of my New Year's goals is to make a cardigan, I decided that I would make it from scratch, using wool and everything. However before getting into something too complex, I decided to have a practice first.
By practice, I'm sure you're thinking that I decided to make a scarf, beanie or a blanket. But no. I decided to make a sweater that was 'easy' level and suitable for beginners. I mean how hard could it be? Surely it would be like riding a bike?
The kit came from @weareknitters and the instructions and videos were really good at getting me back on my feet. However it wasn't quite like riding a bike. It took a few attempts to get my tension right and I had to undo and repeat the knitting for all the pieces at least twice. Creating the v-neck actually took a lot to get my head around. It didn't help that the kit didn't come with a stitch holder to facilitate making the v-neckline of the back piece.
But lo and behold a few months later, I still managed to get a finished garment in my hands. Sizing was a bit tricky; it's a little tight around the shoulders. But I've decided to gift this one to my Sister who is a skinny minnie and it will fit her perfectly.
